MAKING ROOM FOR OUR NEW BOARDER

MAKING ROOM FOR OUR NEW BOARDER

THIS IS OUR NEW BABY; HIS NAME IS COLITA; HE WAS FOUND STRETCHED OUT ON THE HOT PAVEMENT OF ONE OF THE HIGHWAYS TOO WEAK TO EVEN MOVE A MUSCLE...HE IS NOW IN THE HOSPITAL AND IS GETTING TREATMENT FOR HIS EMACIATED BODY...COLITA IS ABOUT 10 TO 12 MONTHS OLD AND IT IS BELIEVED HE HAS LIVED MOST OF HIS LIFE ON THE STREETS...COLITA WON'T BE ABLE TO JOIN IN WITH OUR OTHER DOGS, SO WE ARE NOW BUILDING A SPECIAL COMPOUND JUST FOR HIM...IT'S GOING TO COST A BIT OF MONEY, BUT WE ARE DOING ALL THE WORK OURSELVES.

COQUI AND MARIA BUSILY MIXING CONCRETE FOR THE NEW COMPOUND

CVFAF GANG GATHERING STONES FOR THE CONCRETE MIXTURE

ONCE THE CONCRETE IS MIXED AND THEN POURED INTO HOLES, THE POLES ARE INSERTED AND THEN WHEN DRIED THE MESH FENCE IS INSTALLED...THE WHOLE PROCESS TAKES ABOUT FOUR DAYS, SOMETIMES IT'S LONGER...COLITA WILL LIVE HERE IN A NICE WARM DOG HOUSE ALONG WITH SOME OF OUR OTHER DOGS THAT NEED SPECIAL CARE.

DECEMBER 14/08 UPDATE ON COLITA,

AND A NEW MEMBER OF OUR LARGE FAMILY

COLITA LOOKING GOOD AFTER SEVERAL DAYS OF TENDER LOVING CARE; HE'S OUT OF DANGER, BUT HE STILL HAS SOME MANGE ON HIS CHEST; IT LOOKS PINKISH

LENNY

Lenny is in very bad shape; she has mange, distemper and parvo.  Look at her emaciated body; she seems quite sad. Yesterday I went to the hospital and stayed with her and put her on my lap and kissed her many times; she enjoyed it because she fell asleep in my arms. We forced her to eat some food, and thank God she didn't vomit. I took her out so she could have some fresh air and walk on the soft grass. I guess white walls, syringes, isolation, and all that must be depressing for anyone.

Alejandra, Vanesa and Mark helping with the fence. We think that by Tuesday or Wednesday Colita's place will be ready and we'll bring him home. Lenny will be his roommate when she recovers.

Mariano, Vanesa, María Inés add the finishing touches to Colita's and Lenny's new compound. Here they will be safe until they are well enough to join the other dogs and horses.
